Imagine being able to keep spiders out while making your home smell fresh and clean. You can use any citrus fruit like lemons or grapefruit, but oranges are easy to peel and enjoy. Peel the oranges and cut the peel into quarter-inch strips. Boil some water and pour about one cup of the water over the orange peels. Add a quarter cup of witch hazel to the water and leave the peels to soak overnight. The next morning, add the liquid to a spray bottle so spritz in areas around your house, especially where you see spiders the most.
Peppermint Essential Oil
Spiders and many other insects, like mosquitoes, hate peppermint and this is commonly used as a natural insecticide. The minty scent repels spiders and is actually strong enough to kill mosquito larvae after being it’s exposed to peppermint oil and water. To try this in your home, use 100 percent pure peppermint oil. Wet cotton balls with the oil and place them strategically around the house, in cabinets, under the sink, and in the corners of rooms where you have seem spiders the most.
- Cinnamon: Who knew keeping spiders out of the home could smell so amazing! Simply sprinkle some cinnamon around a point of entry and some spider exterminators believe that they won’t even cross the line.
- Turmeric: This is a great spice to have around for your own health benefits as well as prevent spiders from living in your home. Mix up a paste using turmeric and water and place some on cotton balls that you can scatter around the house. Keep in mind, though, that the paste will stain if it gets on furniture or carpet.
Vinegar is another magical product to keep around the house. Create a solution of equal parts of water and vinegar and pour the mixture into a spray bottle. The solution can be sprayed directly onto spider webs, inside cabinets and closets, and corners. Do this once a week to keep spiders out of your home.
This is a good life tip in general, but will help your home remain spider-free. Be sure to dust, vacuum, and mop with soapy water regularly. Be sure to especially clean areas that are prone to crumbs, which can attract spiders. Also, be sure to take the trash out regularly and keep the bin sealed tightly.
